Work Group Questions...

What were you in the past?
I used to be a fine artist, studying Fine Art and Design at A Level, with an interest in graphic design. However, I was very naive to designers that were out there and their different styles and didn't have a very good understanding of what graphic design was. Art was always a reasonably strong subject at school and college for me and I always wanted to do something with it. I found though that the more I furthered art, the more I became interested in graphics.

What are you now?
I see myself now to be someone still very interested in design. I have progressed to be a first year graphic design student, doing a degree at The College of Art and Design in Leeds. Although I am interested in a lot of design aspects, I have found that I am particularly interested in typography, illustration and digital photography.

What do you intend to become in the future?
I would like to improve my skills using In Design programmes, such as Adobe illustrator and Photoshop, because at the moment I am very much a beginner trying to work them out! I feel that they are holding me and my work back not being able to use them properly. So basically become a computer genius...
If I could I would also like to combine my love for music with design and try to get into designing for music packaging companies or artists.
E.g. For Cd sleeves, Cd's and promo merchandise.
I also find design for magazines to be interesting and creatively inspirational so possibly work for a magazine company?
There are many things I would like to strive to become. Another one would be a web designer, however I realise for this to happen I would have to brush up on my computer skills first!

I found these images on http://www.banksy.co.uk/ Banksy's official website. They are just a couple that i find humoursly clever and quite controversial. I think the reason why I like his work so much is because he is so witty with the subjects that he portrays and clever with the way he produces them. It is also questionable whether his work is art work of grafitti because the majority of it is just spray painted onto walls. I also admire the way that he manages to produce all this work and no one actually really knows who he is!

These two images have been produced by the freelance illustrator and graphic/web designer, Phil Dunne. I came across his works in the March 2007 edition of Computer Arts magazine and checked out his stuff on his website at http://www.lovetherobot.com/ I love the complexity of his work and the way in which he illustrates such emotion with a basic approach.

This is one of many images that i love, produced by the illustrator Si Scott. His work is a great inspiration to me and i think his hand drawn illustrations are beautiful. You can find the majority of his work on his website at

This is a website I came across for the work of designer called Ros Shiers. The work is of a similar style to other designers that inspire me. Such as the work of Si Scott and my earlier post by Pomme Chan. My favourite image by the artist on her website, is the last design on the portfolio link. That particular image also featured in the Graphik December/January 06-07 issue, which is where I first discovered her work.
However, I do very much like this image called 'The Last Romance.'

I found this image produced by Pomme Chan on her website the other day after coming across her work in Grafik magazine back in 2006. More of her work can be found at www.pommepomme.com
